LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” has plenty of people running about – hobbits, wizards, elves, goblins, orcs, trolls, a dragon and 13 dwarves.

AccessHollywood.com is taking a look at the 13 new characters that you might have trouble keeping track of as another trek through Middle Earth begins in the highly anticipated “Lord of the Rings” prequel trilogy from director Peter Jackson, based on the classic novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.

1. Thorin Oakenshield, played by Richard Armitage, is the leader of the dwarf company that descends upon Bilbo Baggin as he attempts to reclaim his kingdom from the deadly fire-drake, Smaug.

2. Dwalin, played Graham McTavish, is the first dwarf that audiences meet. He is known for his skills on the battlefield, hearty appetite and bald head.

3. Balin, played Ken Stott, is a friendly older member of the group, who takes a liking to Bilbo before the others. “LOTR” fans will remember that Gimli references his tragic fate during the trilogy.

4. Gloin, played by Peter Hambleton, is Gimli’s father and bears a striking resemblance to the beloved “LOTR” character.

5. Kili, played by Aidan Turner, is the group’s resident hottie dwarf (if that’s possible!). The warrior – who appears a bit elf-like at times – is very skilled with a bow and arrow, just like another famous Middle Earth resident. Will Legolas and Kili come bow-to-bow at some point in the next two movies?

6. Fili, played by Dean O’Gorman, is Kili’s brother, and the nephew of Thorin. He’s another younger member of the group.

7. Dori, played by Mark Hadlow, is the brother of Nori and Ori. He’s older, but he’s still a brute on the battlefield.

8. Nori, played Jed Brophy, might be best known for his creative facial hair and eyebrows that are long enough to braid!

9. Ori, played by Adam Brown, is known as the sensitive one of the dwarf group.

10. Oin, played John Callen, is an older member of the group, who uses an ear trumpet due to his lack of good hearing in one ear.

11. BiFur, played by William Kircher, stands out as the only dwarf to have the end of an orc axe stuck in his head!

12. Bombur, played by Stephen Hunter, is a portly dwarf with a massive red beard that is braided. He takes plenty of digs from the group about his size.

13. Bofur, played by James Nesbitt, is the brother to Bombur and known to rock a massive hat and a curly ‘stache that only works in Middle Earth!

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is in theaters now, followed by “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” on December 13, 2013 and “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” on July 18, 2014.
