New Releases Disappoint, SOTY Holds Steady

In spite of being a festival release, Chakravyuh, which released on Wednesday, hasn’t received an impressive response from the audience. Ajab Gazabb Love (AGL) and Rush, which opened today, too failed to draw a noteworthy opening. However, the collections of AGL witnessed a growth in collections during the afternoon shows. Meanwhile, Student Of The Year (SOTY), which released last week, is still holding steady in most centres and is stealing footfalls from this week’s releases.

In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “AGL has fared better than Rush in Mumbai as well as all over India. AGL opened at 30-40 per cent in Mumbai and 40-50 per cent all-India, whereas Rush opened with a mere 25 per cent in Mumbai and all-India. Chakravyuh failed to impress and has shown no improvement. SOTY is still going strong at the box office.”
In Delhi-UP, GD Mehta of Bobby Arts International mentions, “AGL opened at 40 per cent in Delhi-UP whereas Rush opened to around 20 per cent. Chakravyuh is also not doing very well here. It’s SOTY which is still doing good business, in fact, better than all the other three films.”
In East-Punjab, Surendra Saluja of Lakshya Movies remarks, “None of the films are great and none has a good report either. AGL and Rush opened at 30 per cent. Chakravyuh’s collections did not improve during the course of the day but SOTY is still doing well. It garnered more business during the morning show than any of the films that released today.”
In West Bengal, Debashish Dey of Aum Moviez avers, “Both today’s releases  received a very poor opening, around 10 to 12 per cent each. Chakravyuh hasn’t show any growth over the last two days. SOTY will steal the show, hands-down, this week too.”
In CP, Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films reveals, “AGL opened at 25 per cent whereas Rush opened at 20 per cent. Rush may do well in single-screens today as it is the Eid weekend and Emraan Hashmi’s fans  would love to watch his film. Releasing Chakravyuh mid-week didn’t do anything for Prakash Jha. SOTY is still going strong in CP, and Karan Johar has given these newcomers an exceptional break with this film.”
In Rajasthan, Gaurav Gaur of O’Real Imaginations concludes, “It’s a sad week as none of the films were able to lure the audience to the ticket windows. AGL opened at 10 to 12 per cent, Rush at 5 per cent and Chakravyuh is a dampner at the box office. But SOTY’s morning show witnessed a bigger turnout than any of the other three films.”
